No matter what generation you belong to you probably have recipes everywhere!

Most Americans have a true love-hate relationship with recipes.

Our Shared Struggle…

When I first started on my own personal Culineer journey, I simply wanted to save my old-school print recipes into digital files. Digital files aren’t just easier to locate, read and save, but they could allow me to search by ingredient or title — without having to thumb through a book or sort through a pile. If you’d like to, you can read my own personal story about the recipe that caused me the most pain, right here.

Since embarking on my journey, I’ve learned that while the food each of us enjoys may vary dramatically, and while we all cook for our own reasons, most of us share a common struggle to save (and locate) recipes in an efficient, easy and enjoyable way. It’s not as severe as something like our country’s food waste crisis, but we certainly have a “recipe crisis” of sorts on our hands here in America.

Of course, being human beings, especially ones who love to create in the kitchen, we’re also resourceful creatures. I’ve heard quite a few strategies and collected some interesting tips and tricks when it comes to recipes lately. They include adding them to binders, capturing screenshots on smartphones, storing them in Ziplock bags, and texting them to yourself (see how vital our smartphones have become to us all?). Traditionally, I’ve never been all that organized myself. I’ve been liable and likely to have them scattered and strewn about in a wide range of locations — from boxes to books to magazines to shortcuts to web pages. Guess what? None of these methods have proven to be very convenient nor effective. How do you manage recipes you find? I’d love to learn more about your story. Send me a note.

This is the first item in my series to share the insights I’ve gained about our daily meal time struggles. I’m hoping to share a new one each week. Who knows maybe you’ll find my findings interesting too?
